Nature vs nurture in longevity

The old debate of fate vs lifestyle… of Gods vs self-responsibility.

Yes, there are certain health conditions and risks which are genetically pre-determined. This is for the individual and her family an unbelievably tragic case of fate or simply bad luck.

Fortunately, most of healthspan destiny is in our hands as indeed nurture seems to mostly beat nature. Studies estimate (for example here) that only about 25% of our longevity fate is driven by our genes. Thus really our own choices are responsible for the bulk of our health outcomes. At Integrail we believe this is really good news because this means we have our health largely in our hands. Studies even indicate that this holds as well true later in life. So, don`t blame yourself on a life of drinking, smoking and no exercise. There is still time to make a really meaningful change.
